KUALA TERENGGANU: Police will launch an operation to track down 37 people allegedly involved in the Sept 8 riot in Batu Buruk.
The deadline for the suspects to surrender to the police ended on Friday.
Terengganu Deputy CID chief Supt Khairi Ahrasa said only nine of the 46 people wanted by police in connection with the riots had surrendered.
“We are updating the information including the addresses of those who have not come forward before we mount a house-to-house operation anytime now,” he said yesterday.
Supt Khairi said the last person to surrender was a 21-year-old farmer from Kampung Pengkalan Berangan in Marang yesterday.
Among those who had surrendered were a Form Four student of a private religious school in Marang and another student from a secondary school in Pasir Panjang.
He said the investigation papers on the rioting were sent to Bukit Aman last week.
“We hope to bring those responsible before the court by this Wednesday,” he added.
