Wear yellow to show displeasure with cleanliness and fairness of electoral system – BERSIH

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 (ES) – Coalition for Clean and Fair Election (BERSIH) this afternoon held a press conference at the Central Market to launch its campaign for wearing yellow pieces of clothing from today and culminating at the mass BERSIH gathering on Nov 10 at Dataran Merdeka.

Faizal Mustaffa, the BERSIH secretariat said the wearing of yellow indicates the solidarity towards the common cause i.e. free and fair election and also as a show of protest at the level of democracy being practiced in Malaysia.
“Representatives throughout the seven continents will be handing over protest notes to their respective Malaysian Embassies simultaneously on Nov 10,” he said.
Representatives from South Korea, Indonesia, United Kingdom, United States and Thailand have agreed to take part while Ghana, The Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Japan, Brazil and Saudi Arabia have shown interest.
Image These representatives consist of Malaysians and non-Malaysians alike from all walks of life who are sympathetic with the cause being fought by BERSIH.
The coalition now has its membership stand at 67 groups, after three more agreed to join namely Gerakan Rakyat Anti Korupsi, Jawatankuasa Pemantau Polis and Citizen Think Tank.
Present in today’s press conference include Dr Lo’ Lo’ Mohd Ghazali, Mohamad Sabu, Anuar Tahir, Nuridah Salleh, former ISA detainee Saari Sungib and activists.
“Our aim is that this mass BERSIH gathering on Nov 10 be the most peaceful in the Malaysian history,” said Anuar.
“Do take note however, that not a single party from the National Coalition (BN) have agreed to join us, despite us inviting them to do so,” he added.
