MALACCA: Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman has indicated that he knows when the next general election will be called.

“I can’t lie to you that I don’t know when the next general election will be held,” he said.
“I can’t tell you when but I have given enough reminders for all to prepare for the polls,” he said in a briefing for returning officers, assistant returning officers and election campaign enforcement officers for Malacca constituencies here yesterday.
The briefing was the first in a series of briefings to be held nationwide.
“It would take a month-and-a-half for us to complete the briefings and the general election could be held after that,” he said. The commission chief challenged those alleging that the elections would not be free, fair and transparent to show him proof.
“Ask them to show me that what we have done is not fair. The opposition parties go into the villages and trick them (villagers) into believing that the Election Commission had cheated the people,” he said.
Abdul Rashid said the electoral rolls were “clean and the best which can be presented for the election at present,” adding that EC officers were working round-the-clock to input data on voter registration.
