The police today stopped polls reform group Bersih from holding a press conference in front of Istana Negara and in the process arrested PKR’s Information Chief Tian Chua.
Also arrested was a PAS member Jalaluddin Abdul Manap.
Earlier a delegation of Bersih leaders had submitted a protest note – addressed to the King – with regards to the upcoming elections fixed for March 8.
The Bersih delegation included Tian, Dr Zulkifli Ahmad, Dr Syed Azman Syed Ahmad, Hatta Ramli and Mat Sabu (all from PAS), and several others.
The police had maintained a close watch on the group and decided to take action as soon as Bersih called for a press conference after submitting their memorandum.
Jalaluddin was arrested after he failed to adhere to a police warning to stop distributing leaflets calling the Election Commission chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman a liar.
