Barisan Nasional has named Ismail Safian as its candidate for the Bukit Gantang by-election on April 7.

The 48-year-old candidate is the former Bukit Gantang Umno division information chief. He is also said to be a drector of the National Solid Waste Management Corporation.
The announcement was made by DPM Najib Andul Razak at a function in Taiping this morning.
Yesterday, Kedah BN chairperson Mahdzir Khalid revealed that Najib would announce the name of the BN candidate for Bukit Selambau after launching the BN Bukit Selambau election machinery at SMK Teknik in Sungai Petani, at 3.30pm today
In Kuching, Sarawak BN leaders are also expected to decide on the BN candidate for the Batang Ai by-election later today. Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to make the announcement.
