SIBU, April 10 — Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin Abang Barieng and his wife Toh Puan Norkiah today paid their last respects to the late deputy Transport Minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew at his residence in Bruang Road here today.
They were among thousands from all walks of life, who did so.
Lau’s widow Datin Jenny Lau Ung Hie, their three children and the Minister of Environment and Public Health Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh received Tun Abang and his wife.
Lau’s remains arrived here at about 10.50pm last night aboard an RMAF aircraft.
Wong and deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang were among more than 1,000 people who turned up at the Sibu Airport to receive his remains.
Lau, Sibu member of parliament for five terms since 1990, will be buried at the Nirvana Memorial Park tomorrow after the funeral mass at the St Mary’s Church starting 9am.
He died at 11.10am at the Selayang Hospital in Kuala Lumpur after a long battle with liver cancer. — Bernama
