SIBU, April 10 — About a thousand people were at the Sibu Airport last night to receive the remains of Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew who died at 11.10am today in his home in Kuala Lumpur.
The military aircraft bringing his remains touched down at Sibu Airport 10.50pm.
Sarawak Minister of Environment and Public Health Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh, Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum, Lanang member of parliament Datuk Tiong Thai King and Nangka state assemblyman Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah were among those present.
Also present were members of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Sibu branch of which the late Lau was the deputy chairman.
According to Eddy Phua, who is a close family friend, Lau’s funeral will be held tomorrow.
“It will begin with a procession around the town starting at 9am at the Sibu gateway. At about 10am a requiem mass will be held at the St Mary’s Church followed by the burial at Nirvana Park,” Phua said.
He reminded those who wished to pay their respects to do so after 11am today at Lau’s residence in Bruang Road here. — Bernama
