HULU SELANGOR: Former deputy chairman of the Hulu Selangor MIC division V. S. Chandran is standing as an independent candidate in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election on April 25.
The 56-year-old Chandran, currently suspended for one year by the party, said he had already paid the RM5,000 deposit to contest in the election.
“I have stayed here for the past 54 years. I know the constituency well, the people and the problems here,” said the businessman who was suspended last year after he went to the press to highlight problems in the division.
Chandran was the division’s deputy chairman from 2003 to 2009.
The by-election is being held following the death of the incumbent MP from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad, on March 25 due to brain cancer.
Former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has been chosen as the PKR candidate while Barisan Nasional is expected to announce its choice tomorrow.
Nomination day is on Saturday. – BERNAMA
