KOTA BAHARU, Oct 6 (Bernama) — Kelantan PAS is willing to select Orang Asli to be candidates for elections if suitable, including for the upcoming Galas by-election, said Kelantan PAS deputy commissioner II, Datuk Husam Musa.
He said this was not an issue as the party had a wide pool of Orang Asli members many of whom were highly qualified.
“Now that they have shown an interest in politics, it is only a matter of time before they join the fray (as election candidates),” he told reporters here Wednesday.
He was asked to comment on remarks made by Gua Musang Orang Asli leader Pandak a/l Panjang Ey that the community had a well-oiled election machinery and that it was about time its members were considered to be election candidates.
The by-election is being held following the death of the incumbent Assemblyman, Chek Hashim Sulaima, 46, of PAS, on Sept 27.
The Election Commission has set Oct 26 for nomination and Nov 4 for polling.
