BERSIH 2.0: PM Najib Razak must intervene for Stadium Merdeka
BERSIH 2.0 met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar today. BERSIH 2.0 reiterated our intention to hold the Perhimpunan BERSIH 2.0 at Stadium Merdeka. BERSIH 2.0, amongst other things, also called for the unconditional release of all those who are detained in connection with BERSIH 2.0 and for the police to stop the on going harassment of BERSIH 2.0 supporters.
During the meeting, it was agreed that BERSIH 2.0 will first apply again to the Merdeka Heritage Trust for the premises and we will then apply through one of our member organisations for a permit.
BERSIH 2.0 calls upon Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Razak to intervene and instruct the management of Stadium Merdeka to issue a letter of approval for the usage of Stadium Merdeka for Perhimpunan BERSIH 2.0 to be held on 9 July 2011. This will accord with the government’s promise to provide us with a stadium for the rally.
