WHAT: BERSIH 2.0 is urging all concerned citizens to speak up and show support for Major Zaidi Ahmad, who is facing a court martial from 8th – 10th April 2014 (Tuesday to Thursday), at Mahkamah Tentera Pengkalan TUDM Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur. Besides BERSIH 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, others who will be speaking at the media conference are constitutional law expert Prof. Dr. Aziz Bari; Lumut Member of Parliament, YB Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid; Lt. Kol. (B) TUDM Haji Mohd. Nazari bin Haji Mokhtar; Kapten (B) Zulkifli bin Othman; and national laureate and former BERSIH 2.0 co-chair A. Samad Said.
WHY: This is yet another political persecution by the authorities that cannot be condoned by all citizens who value justice. Hundreds of police reports, including media reports, have been made about the non-indelible ink – a failure that was even acknowledged by the Election Commission – yet the authorities chose to turn a blind eye on those and instead trained their cross-hairs on a courageous man of the force who dared to state the truth. Whistleblowers must always be protected, or the powers-that-be will never be held accountable and instead be emboldened to commit more wrongdoing at society’s expense.
