MEDIA STATEMENT (17 April 2014)
BERSIH 2.0 is deeply saddened by the shocking death of Karpal Singh, a legend in Malaysian politics and the legal circle, and one of the nation’s most illustrious sons.
We wish his son, Ramkarpal, his domestic helper and his driver, C. Selvam, a quick recovery.
Karpal’s reputation as a fearless defender of democracy and human rights in Malaysia has been carved such that he had seemed indestructible and it is a struggle to accept that this giant figure is lost to us forever.
Our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of Karpal and his loyal aide, Michael Cornelius.
We also thank Michael, too, for his services to this great man, whose passing leaves a chasm in the struggle for a better Malaysia that we must now fill to honour all that he had done and was.
A sorely needed voice of reason in the Dewan Rakyat and the courts, Mr Karpal will be missed.
Rest in peace, Sir, for you have well earned it eternally.
