BERSIH 2.0 to hold media conference on electoral offences in Teluk Intan by-election

MEDIA ADVISORY

27 May 2014
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WHO: BERSIH 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah and other members of the Steering Committee.

WHEN: 28 May 2014 (Wednesday); 12.30pm.

WHERE: Any Time Cafe, Jalan Intan 4, Bandar Baru Teluk Intan, Perak.

WHAT: The hotly-contested Teluk Intan is generating a slew of electoral offences that must be spotlighted and condemned. Joining Maria are BERSIH 2.0 treasurer Masjaliza Hamzah, national committee member New Sin Yew and north peninsula vice-chairperson Dr Toh Kin Woon.

WHY: We must speak up and object vociferously to continued abuses of our democratic processes, or risk becoming a failed state. In particular, we cannot allow elections for public office to be mocked at and rendered meaningless by violations that are condoned by the very body that is mandated to safeguard elections – i.e. the Election Commission.
