BERSIH 2.0 to hold media conference on EC’s dereliction of duty in delineation

MEDIA ADVISORY:

WHO: BERSIH 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, vice-chairperson Thomas Fann (representing South Peninsula) and resource person Dr Wong Chin Huat

WHEN: 15 December 2014 (Monday); 1pm.

WHERE: Dignity International Asia Office

A-2-7 (above MBPJ office)

Pusat Perdagangan Seksyen 8 ,

Jalan Sg Jernih 8/1,

46050 Petaling Jaya.

WHAT: The Election Commission (EC) has announced that it will begin redelineation this month. Yet there has been very little public education on what the process will entail and, most importantly, how the public can participate in it. Instead, the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH 2.0) has received rather alarming information that the Election Commission is planning to have opaque hearings for the objections to their proposed redelineation.

WHY: BERSIH 2.0 wishes to alert the public why this lack of transparency on the part of the EC will be detrimental to them, the impact of which will be felt over not one but two general elections. The public must be educated and informed of the process to ensure their fullest participation that will in turn enhance the integrity of our elections.
