BERSIH 2.0 to hold media conference on Sarawak redelineation

WHAT: The Election Commission (EC) has begun the redelineation process for Sarawak. The government gazette published today the new sizes for all state constituencies, including the additional 11 seats, and maps of the new boundaries are being displayed for 30 days at selected places as announced in the local media. BERSIH 2.0 would like to inform the public regarding the quality of maps displayed as well as the procedure thus far, in addition to giving a preliminary analysis of the EC’s proposal in terms of apportionment.

 

WHY: BERSIH 2.0 wishes to highlight the importance of these new electoral maps for Sarawak, which will not only affect the outcomes of the next two state elections but also serve as a trailer of sorts for the redelineation processes for the peninsula and Sabah.
