BERSIH 2.0 has finalised the Kuala Lumpur route for the BERSIH 5 rally on 19 November 2016 starting at 10am through to 6pm.
There will be two meeting points for rally-goers – Dataran Maybank on Jalan Bangsar and Masjid Negara – converging on Dataran Merdeka. (Please refer to the map attached with this press release).
BERSIH 2.0 has already submitted the 10-day notice that is required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for the 19 November assembly to PDRM at the following stations: Brickfields, Dang Wangi, Bukit Aman, and Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen Kuala Lumpur (IPK KL).
BERSIH 2.0 will follow up with the police in the coming week and we extend our full cooperation to the authorities. We hope that the police will work with us and provide manpower and security on 19 November.
As of now, BERSIH 2.0 has a 1000-strong security team as well as 80 medical staff that includes doctors, nurses, and paramedics, on standby for 19 November.
The BERSIH 5 rally is organised as a response to the political crisis brought on by the 1MDB scandal. BERSIH views it as a failure of our democratic system and proposes 5 demands for institutional reform. They include:
1) Clean Elections
2) Clean Government
3) Strengthening of Parliamentary Democracy
4) Right to Dissent
5) Empowering Sabah and Sarawak
BERSIH 2.0 urges Malaysians to join the BERSIH 5 rally. Not protesting is no longer an option as the political crisis in the country deepens. We must show that all the acts of intimidation and threats of violence thus far will not stop us from taking to the streets on 19 November.
We also want to reiterate our call for Najib to step down to allow for independent investigations into the fraudulent funds used to win the 13th General Elections in 2013. We must take a strong stand against the grand corruption plaguing our country and the flawed governance system that allowed it to happen. We must stand united in the fight for a better Malaysia.
Satukan tenaga, Malaysia baru.
