Media Statement (12 April 2019): No Campaigning on Rantau By-Election Polling Day

The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH 2.0) wishes to remind all political parties and candidates that the campaigning period of the Rantau by-election will officially end by 11.59pm today, 12 April 2019, as the polling day will be held tomorrow, 13 April 2019.
According to the Election Offences Act, campaigning and canvassing for votes on polling day by any means are prohibited. This includes setting up any voter reference booth or ‘pondok panas’ outside polling centres and campaigning on social media. We urge all quarters to respect the cooling off period that starts from midnight of the polling day in order to create a free voting environment for voters.
If you find anyone campaigning on the polling day or committing election offences, please lodge a report to the enforcement team established by the Election Commission by contacting the operation room at 06-6011028 or the team leaders at 013-3934060/ 017-6786728/ 013-4947420/ 012-9176070. We also encourage you to lodge a police report at any police station and send us a copy of the police report at [email protected] for documentation purpose.
BERSIH 2.0 will assign 10 election observers to monitor the election process at polling centres on the polling day. A report which covers the observation of the nomination day, election campaign and polling day will be released after the by-election.
