WWW.BERSIH.ORG UNDER DDOS ATTACK
The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) was informed by our web service provider that our official website at www.bersih.org has been under persistent distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack that began on 13th September and is still ongoing. Our website is now restored and we are making all efforts to thwart the attacks.
A DDoS attack occurs when multiple systems, through botnets, flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system. Our server received over 460 million requests in the last few days. The top five origins of this attack are from Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, China and India but it is impossible to determine the originator of this attack. What is clear is that this is a concerted attack and likely a well-funded effort to bring down our website.
Bersih 2.0 do not know who would want to target us but such illegal acts will not deter our commitment to speak up on behalf of democracy and freedom, both in this country and abroad. We condemn in the strongest term such acts of intimidation and attempts to stifle freedom.
Bersih 2.0 will continue to issue statements on our website but should that be interrupted, we will post on Facebook (Bersih 2.0 [Official]) and Twitter (@bersih2). For those who need to contact us, you can continue to email us at [email protected] .
