Bersih 2.0 Press Statement(7 September 2020): Bersih 2.0 Launches Projek Pantau PRN Sabah and Needs Funds of RM30,000

Bersih 2.0 launches Projek Pantau PRN Sabah today to monitor the conduct of 16th Sabah State Election from 12-26 September 2020. The monitoring of election misconduct has actually started since the dissolution of Sabah State Assembly by the Chief Minister (CM) DSP Shafie Apdal.

The purpose of the election monitoring is to ensure that the rights of Sabah voters are respected and the state elections are conducted cleanly, freely and fairly and to ensure equal playing field for all candidates and political parties. The conduct of election should be free from electoral misconduct and vote buying to show the true will of the people of Sabah in the election results.

Bersih 2.0 will send election observers to 27 constituencies out of the total of 73 constituencies in Sabah to monitor on site the election campaigns of the candidates, political parties and the conduct of election by the Election Commission. The constituencies selected are those that are considered as hotspot as well as the areas where major political figures will be contested in Sabah. We will also monitor the online campaign for all state constituencies.

The Election observation mission will be covering the nomination day, campaign period, polling day, vote counting and the announcement of the election result.

During the election, the election observation mission will disseminate important information regarding the rights of voters. Election observers will also highlight major violations of election law by election candidates, candidate’s agents, political parties or any third party. Finally, an election observation report that documents the key findings during election and future improvement proposals will be published.

Bersih 2.0 has also launched a donation drive to collect donation to cover the cost of the election observation mission. The money donated to Bersih 2.0 will be used to pay for transportation costs, accommodation, food, communication expenses for observers, training sessions and voter education campaigns.

Donation from the public can be channelled to our bank account: Bersih & Adil Network Sdn Bhd – 5122 9510 2931 (Maybank). Our target is RM30,000 to cover the cost of monitoring this election. Please specify PRNSabah as a reference for the donations. Official receipt will be provided by sending a request to [email protected]

Bersih 2.0 once again reminds all parties, especially candidates and political parties to adhere to clean, free and fair election ethics and the Election Offenses Act 1954. We call on all to campaign and compete fairly and cleanly to gain the trust and support of the Sabahan.
