BERSIH NEEDS RM100,000 FOR GE15 PROGRAMMES AND A GET VOTERS OUT CAMPAIGN

The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (BERSIH) appeals to the public to support us as we plan to carry out a number of programmes and run a campaign to encourage voters to come out in large numbers for the 15th General Election (GE15) on 19 November 2022.

BERSIH views this election as a critical election for the nation, where all Malaysians of voting age must decide who should be given the mandate to govern us for the next five years and the future they want for themselves and this country. The stakes are high for all the political parties as the survival of some depends on the outcome of the election. Voters are spoilt for choice this time as there would be multi-cornered contests and a host of new political parties.

For this coming election, BERSIH will be carrying out several important activities to try and ensure that GE15 will be as clean and fair an election as possible.

– For our election observation program, Pemantau, we will be deploying 102 volunteers to observe 51 hot seats across the nation.

– We have setup a special website for GE15 – Pemantau.org to allow the public to lodge complaints about election offences, a GE15 Factchecker & FAQ section to provide accurate information and counter misinformation and fake news, and a weekly Hall of Shame to highlight election offenders.

– We are setting up a Call Centre to handle enquiries from the public from Nomination Day until Polling Day.

-We will also have a team of volunteers to monitor online campaigning and record any offences.

– To encourage voters to come out and vote on November 19, we will be launching the #VoteFuture campaign right after Nomination Day. A high voters turnout is critical for democracy and to add legitimacy to the new government.

Our estimated budget to run all these programs and campaigns is RM100,000, and we need your help. While most of our volunteers are not expecting any remuneration, we will nonetheless give them a stipend to cover food and travel expenses.

Over the years, the Malaysian public have supported us and enabled us to voice out for you and push for important institutional reforms like the expansion of postal voting to all Malaysians living overseas, the lowering of voting age to 18 and Automatic Voters Registration, equal Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for all MPs and ADUNs and the Anti-Party Hopping Law amendments. There is still so much to do and we need you to continue supporting us.

So, we appeal to you to donate generously to BERSIH, for us to monitor GE15 effectively and to get voters out to vote. No amount is too small and every Ringgit donated will be accounted for, and we will provide you a detailed financial report after the election.

Donate to Bersih, support us in our fight for a cleaner and better Malaysia for all.
